Have you ever owned a car with Navigation? It’s one of those options you
don’t realize how nice it is until you have one. Once you have Navigation, it
spoils you and you will never want a new vehicle without it.
The Mercedes-Benz Navigation system offers you security and efficiency when you
need it the most. Using GPS technology and digitized maps, you can track your
weekend roadtrip or see the highways you will be approaching. Looking to avoid
tolls and freeways, or looking for the upcoming rest area? Not a problem. The
Mercedes- Benz navigation system offers Point of Interest, which enables you to
view your preferences at the touch of a button. The Mercedes-Benz Navigation
system includes coverage in 48 contiguous United States, plus Hawaii and Canada
depending on system configuration.
Lost in unfamiliar neighborhood at night is not an ideal picture of safety. With the Mercedes- Benz Navigation system you can identify your location and have visual and voice commands to guide you to your destination, offering you safety and peace of mind.
Trying to find an alternative route because of traffic? Needs directions to a
last minute meeting? At Mercedes-Benz, we understand that time and efficiency
is valuable to you, with the navigation system Points of Interest feature you
can rest assure that your day will run as planned.
Another key feature is the “last destinations”. The Mercedes-Benz Navigation
will keep your previous trips and destinations stored so the next time you want
to head home, you can choose from your last destinations rather then programming
the navigation to route your trip home.
Mercedes-Benz also offers NavUpdate, which automatically updates new map
information such as restaurant closures, new store openings, ATM locations, and
new exits on major highways. Available in one, two, and three year subscription
plans, your plan includes discs (which are shipped directly to the address you
specify) along with automatic map updates.

We've come a long way from the paper maps purchased at gas stations. The Mercedes-Benz navigation system is truly feature rich and full of driving benefits. Thanks for the info. I'll make a note of your post on my blog:

On the Benz navigation is there a button for a shortcut to a destination instead of taking the local route.

They should still replace their system with Garmin in the US and Tom-Tom in Europe. It's not eactly helpful to go to address 50-75 Smith Lane rather than 53 Smith LAne on the left like GArmin pinpoints.

"you don’t realize how nice it is until you have one."
Hmmm.
Let me suggest that the article should instead say, "unless you have used a Garmin or similar GPS navigator you may not realize how really bad the M-B navigation system is."

$250.00 for a map update disk is a bit steep. Typical of Mercedes though.

Interesting comments, since we are considering buying a new BluTec, and a user-friendly navigation system is important to us, having used the Garmin Street Pilot III for several years...and it ain't easy to use!

Now that the new MB navigation system is hard drive driven (not DVD anylonger) how much will an update cost. Does anyone know if MB came up with an update for the new 2008-2009 C class that allows you to see real time traffic?

For an automobile in the SL550 class the navigation system is just another reason for me to say "the most over rated automobile that I have owned. I guess I am just spoiled having used a Garman nav.

I have a E350 and it looks like the GPS screen has some type of burn in...Is there a way to replace or repair the screen?
